Alumni and students filled hundreds of seats in Burr Gymnasium to watch Greek organizations and campus step teams compete for a cash prize in the annual Homecoming Step Show.

With performances from organizations such as Quad Step Team, Howard Step Team, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and many more; Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. took home the win for the 2023 Step Show.

The step show is a yearly tradition that the university has upheld for years.

“Tonight is about nostalgia… reminiscing about moments we remember most from our youth,” shared Jae Murphy, the host of the step show event and Howard alum.

Before the performance, a few audience members shared how they feel Howard has maintained the legacy of homecoming while elevating the event as time goes on.

“There's always room for evolution but I appreciate that Howard has kept the tradition… they [step shows] get better every year,” stated Michael Taylor, a senior and current Mister School of Communications.

Lethan Hampton, a recent graduate added “The step show is something people look forward to coming and watching… every year it's something new and people love it for that reason.”

The anticipated show continues to prove itself as a staple event during Howard’s homecoming season. Despite debates about the fairness surrounding the event’s pricing with tickets ranging from $40-$60 dollars, those in attendance attested the step show was definitely worth the price.

A true celebration of tradition and HBCU culture, the Howard University Homecoming Step Show is an event you don’t want to miss during homecoming!
