Spooky Season is finally here and you know what that means! It is time to binge-watch all the scary movies you can to prepare for the spookiest holiday.
While many are horror fanatics and can’t wait for October to roll around, we understand some are less enthusiastic about gore, disturbing graphics, and jump scares. If you’re a scaredy cat, here are 13 movies/shows for those who don't like horror but still want to get in a Halloween mood:
1. Coraline
Follow Coraline's eerie journey into an alternate reality in this beautifully crafted stop-motion film. A classic and my personal favorite!
2. Wendell & Wilde
Produced by Jordan Peele and directed by Henry Selick, this whimsical and spooky animated tale brings together dark comedy and fantastical elements. We LOVE alt-Black girl character leads!
3. The Addams Family
Join the delightfully macabre Addams family as they navigate the challenges of being different in a conformist world.
4. Twitches & Twitches Too
Tia and Tamera Mowry star as twin sisters who reunite and uncover their magical destiny. A CLASSIC!
5. The Sixth Sense
M. Night Shyamalan's chilling masterpiece features a young boy who can see and communicate with the dead. Not as scary as it sounds, I promise!
6. See You
The plot twist is insane. A suspenseful, mind-bending film that keeps you on the edge of your seat with all of its unexpected twists.
7. The Call
Dive into a gripping South Korean thriller about a woman who receives calls from the past and must solve a murder to save a life. Don't let subtitles stop you from enjoying this amazing movie.
8. The Black Phone
Follow the story of a young boy who must outsmart a sinister kidnapper using a mysterious black phone.
9. Get Out
Jordan Peele's first horror film blends social commentary with suspense as a young African-American man uncovers dark secrets during a visit to his girlfriend's family estate.
10. Monster House
A family-friendly animated tale about three kids who discover their neighbor's house is a living, breathing monster.
11. Scooby-Doo Mystery Incorporated
This show is the best adaptation of Scooby-Doo, in my opinion, and I'm a Scooby stan! The plot, animation, and plot twist are insane. A must-watch!
12. Us
Another Jordan Peele masterpiece, this film dives into doppelgangers and societal themes. I absolutely love this film and it will keep you hooked from start to finish.
13. ParaNorman
A young boy with the ability to see and communicate with ghosts must save his town from a centuries-old curse in this visually stunning animated film.
