DEJA VU IN THE BAYOU?
SPORTS | FEB 9, 2025
This weekend, NFL fans were treated to a pair of championship games. The Washington Commanders, led by rookie quarterback sensation Jayden Daniels faced off against Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles for the third time this season who were favored by a touchdown. Saquan Barkley who ranks first among all running backs with over 2,000 yards and 345 carries, wasted no time making his presence felt with a 60-yard touchdown run on the first play of the game. While Washington battled back to keep the score competitive heading into the locker room, the Commanders four turnovers contributed to a blowout Philadelphia win (55-23) setting the stage for Philly’s return to the final dance after falling to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023. While the loss to their division rivals is obviously an embarrassing one, the success of the Commanders with a new quarterback, Head Coach (Dan Quinn) and General Manager (Adam Peters) sets the bar high for next season and beyond.
Speaking of the Chiefs… Kansas City sent MVP front-runner Josh Allen, and the Buffalo Bills packing in a thriller for the third year in a row. Despite, Buffalo beating Kansas City (30-21) during the regular season in November breaking their 9-game win streak. The AFC Championship held true to the trend of many tightly contested Kansas City games, as the score remained tied with just under four minutes to go, Buffalo failed to convert a 4th and 5 which set the stage for Kansas City to make a first down and drain the clock to a victory. Social media was in an uproar after the game, in regards to the unprecedented success of the franchise, in addition to a controversial turnover on downs where Josh Allen was ruled to have been short of the line to gain in Kansas City territory.
The Chiefs have a chance to do something that has never been done… 3-peat, no team in the history of the NFL has gone to 3 straight Super Bowls and won. Roster for roster, each team is packed with star power at every position, and a decorated coaching staff on either side to match. However, Mahomes, with 19 fourth-quarter comebacks and 23 game-winning drives under his belt coupled with the experience of 17 playoff wins is why the Chiefs will win this year's 59th Super Bowl (hosted in New Orleans, LA) -– in a close one.
