With springtime upon us, several campuses have kicked off probate season, the time of year when the National Panhellenic Council organizations, also known as the Diving Nine, unveil newly initiated members. North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCAT) and Morehouse College are the first of many schools to host a new member presentation this month.

Probate season in the spring is a time of celebration and community.

Over the course of two days, proud alums, excited family members, and eager students filled NCATs Corbett Sports Center.  Nine new member presentations took place- seven of them, Divine Nine organizations.

Greg, a first-year student from NCAT who opted only to share his first name, recounted the night as "high energy filled with a lot of excitement and happiness.”

The following week, members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. at Morehouse College celebrated the initiation of their new members on their yard. Hugh Douglas, a sophomore business major attending Morehouse, described the event as an "emotional experience."

D9 organizations have long-standing histories and profound relationships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). Many feel they are the backbone of our schools.

"Probate season is a celebration of HBCU culture. These organizations have deep roots in our school," said Douglas.

Students recognize the impact Greek organizations have on their campuses. "Greek orgs of the AUC give mentorship and tutoring and focus on community engagement around the metro Atlanta area," said Douglas.

Greg finds the same to be true at NCAT. "They (greek organizations) advocate for making sure everyone is included (not just greek life), give an opportunity to everyone, and participate in a lot of community service"

The greek community's sizable impact on college campuses is a driving force for people to gather each spring, even if they are not members themselves. Howard University is the founding campus for a number of  Divine Nine organizations making it a major attraction during probate season. The energy is rising, and students across the nation are at the edge of their seats, waiting to see what this spring has in store.
