Five Must-Try Brunch Spots in DC

Navigating any new city always comes with its own set of challenges. But never fear, this is a brunch starter guide that is sure to leave you satisfied with a full understanding of why DC is dubbed the brunch capital of the world. Here are our top five brunch spots in the District:
1. honeymoon chicken
4201 Georgia Ave NW
Honeymoon Chicken is where your wildest fried chicken fantasies come true. A true southern oasis amid the concrete jungle of the east coast, Honeymoon’s location near the Petworth Metro makes it as accessible as it is delicious. The best part, however, isn't the meal (which is still damn good) it's the ordering system. Whether it’s a large party, or just you and your freshman week bestie, ordering is done through a QR code and sent straight to the kitchen. This also prevents any “Who paid for what?” mishaps when the check comes at the end of your meal, which is helpful because the only thing you’ll want to do after eating here is take a good nap!
2. unconventional diner
1207 9th St NW
Trying to impress your mom with your culinary expertise? Unconventional Diner is the restaurant to do it (fair warning though, there’s a good chance that she’s never going to want to eat anywhere else). It's no secret why—their approach to food leaves you feeling happy, satisfied, and still light enough to conquer the day. Unconventional Diner is exactly that—unconventional, but don’t sleep on them just because you’ve never heard of Shakshuka! This is the best place to open yourself up to try new things and enjoy doing it.
3. Ben’s Next Door
1211 U St NW
The Ben’s experience can be summed up with three words: A TURN UP. This is the place that people are talking about when they say “Brunch in DC is such a vibe.” The food is great too, but you don’t go for the food. You go to get lit from 11-2 pm and still have time to make it to the evening function. Within walking distance from campus, Ben's always promises a good time before a good time and is a great introduction to DC brunch and darty culture.
4. Ted’s Bulletin
Locations vary
Ted’s Bulletin is the perfect place for all of the picky girlies. Every breakfast item you could possibly want has a home on this menu. I used to be a firm believer that any place with a 10-page menu couldn’t possibly do everything well, but Ted’s has proved my expectation wrong again and again. From the hashbrowns to the pancakes to the array of juices, cocktails, and milkshakes, they offer what I would call an authentic “east coast” breakfast. After you’re done putting down one of their huge plates, feel free to walk it off in the surrounding area where you will find the cutest shops and something sweet to munch on.
5. Busboys & Poets
Locations vary
A good homecoming weekend always begins with Busboys and Poets. The best place for all of socially-conscious brothers and sistas who like a side of activism with their French toast and grits. The menu has a little bit of everything and always tastes like someone's grandmother is back in the kitchen. Along with its deliciousness, Busboys and Poets offers extensive gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options and locations all across DC. If you’re looking for a low-key night out, check out the poetry nights, book talks, or open mic performances, where you are almost guaranteed to find the next upcoming performer.
